Freshwater Pearls in Comparison to the Saltwater Pearls

Pearls are usually made in saltwater and freshwater but the pearls that come from saltwater are higher in quality and are therefore more expensive in cost but it's entirely up to the person having interest in pearls to choose between the two commonly used types of pearls.

The main difference between the two main types of pearls that is saltwater or freshwater is the kind of crate by the help of which a pearl also know as a gemstone is formed. Saltwater pearls usually come from oysters and are commonly found in oceans and seas. As these oysters are a main reason behind the creation of pearls, people dealing in the pearl business had to hire special teams to dive into the oceans for locating them. But today with the help of wide spread technology these oysters are grown in farms to produce high quality pearls.

Compared to saltwater pearls which come from oysters, freshwater pearls are created by mussels and molasses that are found in abundance in the river beds, lakes and streams. But today just like the oysters these mussels and molasses are also famed to produce freshwater pearls of equally good quality. This is also because of the reason that in some places hunting of mussels is illegal as it can upset the balance of the ecosystem.

If you are passionate in collecting pearls than you can easily distinguish the freshwater pearls from the saltwater pearls. The former have an irregular shape usually like a potato whereas the latter is completely round. This irregular shape of the freshwater pearl which can also be compared to the oval shape of an egg makes it a bit economical but again with the usage of technological tools some of the pearls can be shaped into having a pure rounded shape. They are mostly used for making jewelry as they are hugely popular among people because they are a bit cheaper. As they grow in different species of mussels, they also have a wide range of colors like pink, grey, black, yellow etc. and are also available in different sizes. Amongst the jewelry, necklaces made from the freshwater pearls looks elegant and are in a huge demand.

Amongst all the countries that produce pearls, China is the largest producers of pearls. Chinese Pearl jewelry is preferred among all the people because of its good quality and high standards.

These pearls make a very good gift so if you are looking for an elegant and stylish gift for an economical price than nothing is better than the jewelry made of freshwater pearls.
